Each April 2, Autism Speaks, along with the international autism community celebrates the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day and kicks off Autism Awareness Month. In honor of this historic day, Autism Speaks is asking iconic landmarks, colleges and universities around the globe to Light It Up Blue. Our school’s participation will help shine a bright light on the growing health crisis of autism, which affects 1 in 88 American children – or 1 percent of the world’s population – approximately 70 million people. This can be done using a sheet outside the house’s window, streamers, balloons, light bulbs or ANYTHING blue! Be creative! Unfortunately, on April 2nd, our campus will still be away enjoying spring break, so we will celebrate Autism Awareness on Sunday April 9th, 2017. At night, around 7:30 pm, the sisters of Alpha Xi Delta will walk around campus and judge who they believe had the best “lit up blue” house!
